Recipe Club was born in January of 1995. The first dinner was held at Si's house with a small group of 5 women. Through the years the group evolved into a steady group of ten, who attend regularly. All of the women are married. Collectively, we have 47 children ranging in age from 2 to 30! Among us are full time moms, teacher, caterer, florist, attorney, writer, musicians, temple worker, business owner, lecturer, model, artists, and university student.
the rub
We share a love of cooking and a commitment to cooking with quality ingredients. It is not unusual for us to spend hours looking for and preparing dishes to share at our dinners. When we get together, besides laughing, talking and sharing about families, travel and everyday life, we ALWAYS go around the table and explain what we brought. It includes where the recipe came from, any adjustments etc. This is one of the best parts of the dinner. We tried to have spouses join us once or twice, but they just didn’t get this part of the dinner!
Once a dish I prepared was met with applause! "Short Ribs Provencale with Crème Fraiche Mashed Potatoes"-It was the Bon Apetit "Dish of the Year" ...I decided to make it for my family the next week. The conversation went something like this- me- "how do you like it?" family- "tastes like roast beef and mashed potatoes, where is the gravy??" me- " THIS WAS THE BON APETIT DISH OF THE YEAR!" family- blank stare.
